Japanese food is in a very strong position in the global market and it is the best in the world, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said.
He said that his country had a large presence in the US, the UK and Canada.
“The world has been growing, so our presence is also growing,” Abe said at a briefing on Monday, in a speech to the UN General Assembly.
In Japan, restaurants and cafes offer Japanese cuisine, from sake to sushi.
The country’s economy has been improving.
Abe said that Japan would expand its domestic consumption of food by 20% in 2020 and would achieve the global benchmark of half of its GDP being consumed on food.
On the other hand, Abe warned that Japan faces a “tipping point” with the growing number of people who want to eat more of the country’s traditional foods.
